Match 1 : Namibia vs Sri Lanka, T20 World Cup 2022 : Namibia win
- Jan Frylinck ( R / B / 4s / 6s = 44 / 28 / 4 / 0) and JJ Smit ( R / B / 4s / 6s = 31 / 16 / 2 / 2) helped to win Namibia in their first round match against Sri Lanka by 55 runs and blasted Namibia out of a desperate situation, then their seamers scythed their way through Sri Lanka’s batting order Ben Shikongo taking two wickets in two balls inside the powerplay, while David Wiese and Frylinck also made key breakthroughs.
- In the end, the match wasn’t even close. Sri Lanka, never having seemed on top of the chase of 164, could not get a partnership going – Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dasun Shanaka mustering the best of their innings, with 34. Namibia’s bowlers kept mixing up their pace on a slow Geelong surface that rewarded pace off the ball. Sri Lanka’s batters kept holing out. They were eventually all out for 108 at the end of the 19th over
- Namibia, meanwhile, had pulled off perhaps the biggest upset in the history of their men’s side. In the last T20 World Cup, they’d beaten Full Member Ireland to make it into the main draw.
- This time, they’ve taken down the freshly-crowned Asia Cup champions, and a side that had won their last five successive T20s.
- Sri Lanka entered the contest as the favourites, after all, they have defeated the likes of India and Pakistan last month to claim the Asia Cup title. But they were stunned to the core after being defeated by Namibia by 55 runs on Sunday in Geelong. The Gerhard Erasmus-led side won the T20 World Cup 2022 opener and is now at the top of the group A points table.
- It was no less than a fairy tale for Namibia the way they thumped Sri Lanka. After a poor start to their innings, the duo of Jan Frylinck and JJ Smitt forged a 70-run stand, helping their team set a challenging 164-run target for Sri Lanka.
- The Asian Champions went began the chase in style as Pathum Nissanka went off the mark with a four of the very first ball. But their fate changed completely after losing three wickets inside the Powerplay. Fast bowler Ben Shikongo produced a double-wicket maiden in the 4th over, removing Nissanka and Gunathilaka off consecutive deliveries. That was indeed the turning point of the game as the Lankan batters kept playing mistimed shots and getting caught. Sri Lanka were bundled out for 108 runs with 6 balls to spare.

MATCH 2: T20 World Cup 2022 – UAE vs Netherlands, Match Report – Netherlands secures a victory by 3 wickets
The Netherlands registered a narrow win over the UAE in their first match of the T20 World Cup group stages. The side followed up a good show with the ball with an average batting performance, which helped them have the edge over UAE in a low-scoring thriller.
UAE on the other hand is in trouble after having lost their opening game of the group stage of the T20 World Cup. The side posed a serious threat with the ball in the second innings but failed to have the edge over their opponents in the crucial moments, which resulted in a 3-wicket loss for them.
The UAE won the toss and elected to bat first. The openers, Suri and Waseem, provided a slow start to their side. Suri was dismissed in the 6th over by van der Merwe for 12 as UAE struggled to get going. Kashif Days, who was new to the crease, steered the innings forward along with Waseem, but neither of them managed to take the bowlers on demand and find the boundaries.
his led to Daud’s dismissal for 15. Waseem, who had been resistant right from the first over, ended up losing his rhythm and threw away his wicket after scoring a 47-ball 41 as UAE were 3 wickets down at 91. What followed was sheer dominance by the Dutch bowlers. The UAE lost 5 wickets in the remaining overs just for the addition of 21 runs, thereby posting a target of 113 for the Netherlands to chase.
The Netherlands, too, didn’t have a perfect start to their run chase as they lost early wickets inside the powerplay. Both the openers were sent back inside the first 6 overs, but the fact that the required run rate was under control provided the batting side with a bit of relief. The batters tried to get to the target as early as possible, but the UAE bowlers didn’t let them have it for easy.
The bowlers did brilliantly pick wickets at regular instances, as the Netherlands were 3 down by the 10th over with the required run rate a little less than 6. The period between the 12th and 14th oversaw the Netherlands in deep trouble as they went from being at 71/3 to 76/6. A double strike from Junaid Siddique in the 14th over to remove Cooper and Van der Merwe turned the match on its head completely.
