ICC will introduce New 5 Rules in the World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) regularly modifies or changes some rules of cricket to improve the quality of the sport. In the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022, ICC will introduce 5 new rules in the tournament.

Players will have to abide by these rules during ICC T20 World Cup 2022 or they will face a penalty. While some of these rules are already in practice in the shortest format, some of these will come into effect during the tournament. Below we take a glance at 5 new rules that ICC will introduce in ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

1. Mankading – will be termed Run-Out

Mankading has always been considered one of the most controversial forms of dismissals in cricket. However, ‘Mankading’ or ‘running out a non-striker’ will not be considered controversial anymore. Now, Mankading will be termed as run-out and will be an appropriate form of dismissal.

Hence, bowlers can run out a non-striker if they try to leave the crease during the bowler’s run-up or before the bowler delivers the ball. ICC has moved Mankading from ‘unfair play section to ‘the run-out’ section.

2. New Batsman To Take Strike After Caught Out

Earlier, when a batsman got caught out, he had the chance to change the strike with his partner. The batsman can change their strike before the ball was caught by the fielder. However, this rule has been changed by ICC.

From ICC T20 World Cup 2022 onwards, batsmen cannot change their strike during a caught-out dismissal. The new batsman who comes to the crease will have to take the strike. It doesn’t matter if batters change their strike before the catch as the new batsmen will always have to take the strike.

3. Fielding Penalty For Slow Over-Rate

This rule has been practised in some games so far this year. Teams will get fielding penalties if they fail to comply with the over-rate. If a team is found guilty of slow-over rate, one more extra fielder will be placed inside the circle for the rest death overs.

For example, if a team is failing to start the final over (20th over) at the scheduled time, one extra fielder will have to be placed inside the 30-yard-circle in the final over. Suppose, a team has only completed 18 overs till the mandatory 90-minute slot, then one extra fielder will have to be kept inside the 30-yard circle for the next 2 overs.

4. Playing Deliveries Outside Pitch

This is another rule that ICC will introduce in ICC T20 World Cup 2022. If a batsman tries to play a ball outside the playing area (pitch), then some part of his body or the bat has to be inside the playing area. If the batsman leaves the playing area to hit the shot, the ball will be termed a dead ball. Moreover, such balls will also be called no-ball and the batting team will get a free hit.

5. Penalty For Unfair Movements By Fielders

This is another rule that applies only on the fielding side. If fielders are spotted executing intentional or unfair movements to distract batsmen when a bowler is taking a run-up, the umpire can call the ball dead and also allot 5 penalty runs to the batting team.
